Stewart+Brown Fall 2007

Visitng Stewart+Brown always makes me happy. Let me count the ways:

1. Karen Stewart and Howard Brown are a husband-and-wife design team. (We love that!)

2. Her background at Patagonia coupled with his at Urban Outfitters equals an enticingly fashionable AND environmentally friendly collection.

3. All products are made from one of these five earth- and people-friendly material types:
Organic cotton – did you know that one-third cup of pesticides and fertilizers go into the average regular cotton t-shirt? Organic cotton is safer for farmers to grow and healthier for the soil it’s grown in.
Mongolian cashmere, which pills less than other cashmeres.
Premium knitwear, made from merino wool sheared from free-range sheep in New Zealand, where Bret and Jemaine also happen to be from.
Green fabric – organic hemp and linen.
Factory surplus – bags and accessories made from top-grade factory surplus fabrics that other manufacturers have discarded.

4. Whimsical hand-doodlings on seasonal campaign images make online shopping even more fun.

5. Their tagline is “Organic Pioneers.”

6. Inspiring photo journals make me want to be a starving artist.

7. Through “1% for the Planet,” they give one percent of all sales to environmental organizations.

8. I’m a sucker for the sweetest-little-hummingbird-couple-ever in the logo.

9. Yummmmm.

(All S+B collections are made at their Ventura, California, factory.)
