Is there a seamstress in the house?

Built by Wendy “Sew U”

While browsing the Built by Wendy beautifully-understated fall collection, I noticed the words “patterns” and “sew” and had to click. How had I not yet seen Wendy Mullins’ sewing book, “Sew U”??A reviewer from dressaday.com gives it all thumbs up: “The best part of Sew U is that not only does it include three patterns (skirt, shirt, pants), Wendy spends a great deal of the book explaining how to alter those three patterns to end up with any number of different effects. In other words, instead of ‘add jalapenos,’ it’s ‘make a pointed collar round’ and ‘change skinny-leg pants to boot-cut.’ It’s a sewing cookbook!”

Built by Wendy published the book of sewing basics with Simplicity, who then printed a line of full-on patterns for them. Wendy’s perspective on her book and patterns is to hone the mad fashion designer skills you always knew you had. Starting from “How to Shop for a Sewing Machine,” she tells how to break the rules, how to buy fabric, how to create and personalize the three patterns included and even how to work with a tailor when maybe you weren’t the best (wo)man for the job. Not that that happens.

I am SO sewing eight variations on every pattern… as soon as I have no more job, friends or blogs to update. So.
