You say you want a resolution

Brief digression here, but I’ve been thinking about resolutions. Rather than making cliche statements about how we wish we were different, let’s really do something this year. (I’d say “get off our butts and,” but there happens to be no standing up required.)

2008 New Year’s Revolutions: New, improved and delivered straight to your Inbox! (The mass email makes it so easy…)

International Justice Mission

“IJM exists to protect people from violent forms of injustice by securing rescue and restoration for victims and accountability for perpetrators, ensuring that public justice systems work for the poor.”

Not For Sale

“27 million people are enslaved today. Not For Sale is a campaign of individuals, musicians, artists, people of faith, businesses, schools and sports teams united to stop it. Everyone’s invited. Welcome to the movement.” Founder David Batstone is an inspiration of mine.

ONE

“ONE is Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life — united as ONE — to help make poverty history. We are a campaign of over 2.4 million people and growing from all 50 states and over 100 of America’s most well-known and respected non-profit, advocacy and humanitarian organizations.”

Oxfam International

“Oxfam International is a confederation of 13 organizations working together with over 3,000 partners in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.”

(Product)Red

“All things being equal, they are not. As first world consumers, we have tremendous power. What we collectively choose to buy, or not buy, can change the course of life and history on this planet. … If you buy a (Red) Product or sign up for a (Red) service, at no cost to you, a (Red) company will give some it its profits to buy and distribute anti-retroviral medicine to our brothers and sisters dying of AIDS in Africa.” (Read The (Red) Manifesto in full, it’s fantastic.)
