MapTote say “man with map on tote not get lost”

There’s something lovely about the plain old canvas tote. Before we had Anya Hindmarch’s “I am not a plastic bag or “Be a bag,” the Marc Jacobs tote, the Nina Totin’ Bag, the Baggu or any number of other A-list shopping totes, we minded our stash of poorly-designed tchotchke bags. MapTote channels that same simplicity — but I can’t figure out whether it’s intentional or not! Created by a cartographer and a fashion stylist, Maptote’s selection of hand-screenprinted bags represent about 11 different cities with rudimentary line drawings and “characteristic” fonts. But couldn’t we have paid attention to the letter-spacing in “San Francisco”? (And does Philadelphia really want to keep pushing the Rocky thing? And the Chicago letter blocks??)

Maybe I’m being too critical, but even GOOD Magazine featured them a while ago. What do you think — tongue-in-cheek or just undiscerning?
