Rogan for Target, Part II: Parting is such sweet sorrow

The countdown is on — only four days left to grab your Rogan for Target separates. Since I’ve been wearing mine for a few weeks now, I wanted to write a follow-up post not only to let you know about clearance prices across the line, but also about the materials themselves. (And, of course, the cutesy care tag above!)
When I pledged my allegiance to green fashion, I started getting used to wearing KNITS and DENIM all the time. But the Rogan for Target collection features plenty of organic cotton that isn’t either. My safari-inspired top is light and linen-like, and my dress is like a nice, finely woven oxford shirt. Introducing these fantastic organic cotton alternatives to the sustainable status quo (and in a mass line, no less) seems a promising preview for what green fashion has in store for the future. I hope our favorite labels are taking note of what all organic cotton can do.
AND how they can communicate what they’re doing and why. Rogan and the team deserve mad props for pairing the playful personality you see here on these tags with such a clearly green message — having fun and doing good at the same time! He’s like the cool teacher in school.

Now hurry — June 28 is your last day to shop! (And stores are pretty much sold out, so get online!)

This is so encouraging. If even the big stores are promoting this sort of stuff, (I sincerely hope) it means we’re seeing a sea change in our culture with regards to organic products. Have you read The Omnivore’s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan? It just changed my life. It’s about cultivating sustainable ecosystems (vs. the current industrial standard of monocultures), much in the tradition of such agricultural philosophers as the wonderful Wendell Barry. Check it out!
