Legos! Heart pins! Marc Jacobs! Oh, my.
First, I saw them on The Sartorialist.
I sent the link to Heather, who’s helping me design Fashion Loves People — note the heart pin in my header, above. (Albeit much more rudimentary, we’re playing with the idea of making this my “thing.” Like pink ribbons.)
I initially thought these guys were some of the Sartorialist’s random street finds, and I wasn’t sure what the hearts were made of. Turns out, they’re definitely LEGOS, as designed by these very dudes. These and a series of other Legos-made-accessories were created by 21-year-old twins Dee and Ricky and donned in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 show! Read all about it at Fred Flare.
Then, I saw this!
And this!
And then I did this!
Which means, make your own Lego heart pin for $2.06. Plus the price of a pin closure and some glue. (And shipping.) Thank you, Lego.com.
Two: Brick 2×2
Two: Brick 1×2
Four: Roof Tile 2×2/45°
Two: Brick 2×4
Six: Roof Tile 2×2/45° Inv.
LOVING IT!
UPDATE: I originally got some of the roof tile bricks wrong. Oops. This is correct, and confirmed!

I think I first saw this on the Sartorialist during NY fashion week and thought it was amazing. Don’t be too shocked if I end up with one.

how do you get the pin closure on the back of the heart?

Great question. I haven’t received my Legos yet (should anytime), so I can’t say for sure. I’m taking my glue-buying tips from http://www.thistothat.com/ — tells you what glue to use for various surfaces! I anticipate that I’ll need to slightly sand the surface of the Legos to get a good bond.

I represent Dr Rand Pink the celebrity gynecologist and his son’s bedroom walls are legos from floor to ceiling. Dr Pink who is now a comic and filmaker and the mind of a middleschooler started the madness by lining his walls with bubblewrap years ago. Pink always knew his son was into art because he kept saying dada. Pink is not a designer though his late wife was a Swiss model along with his current Israeli galpal – Pink designed a womens bag for Marc Jacobs called SCROTUM and a smaller clutch called LANCE ARMSTRONG or 1ball.
Rand was inspired by Diane von Furstenberg to create the wrap dress in paper for his gynecological patients. Pink’s most daring ad launch was his denim line which he sold to a Denmark concern. His denims were VAJEANA. His tribute to Calvin Klein was an ad featuring Paris Hilton with denim draped legs spread as she spoke ” Nothing Comes Between Me And My VAJEANA.

That last comment should have made it into the spam bin. But I liked it too much. From the “Zsa Zsa” to the VAJEANA ad campaign… where does this stuff come from??

To answer a few questions:
1) Glue! Here’s what I did, which worked well: I lightly sanded the area of the Lego heart where the pin was to be affixed, and then glued the metal pin closure on with Gorilla Glue. I “clamped” it by wrapping it in a rubber band and let it dry for the night. Voila!
2) Size: The breakdown of my Lego.com order makes the heart size worn by Kanye in this post. I’m not sure how to make the bigger size.
3) As detailed in the Lego.com order, you need four roof tiles and six inverse roof tiles.
Thanks everyone! Enjoy!
