Mixing Old and New: Hudson Hotel NY

My brother is planning a trip to NYC and just sent me a link to the Hudson Hotel in Hell’s Kitchen. I checked out the “visual tour,” and the interiors are blowing me away. Designed by Phillippe Starck and Ian Schrager and opened back in 2000, the Hudson’s look accomplishes exactly the pairing of ornamented Victorian frills + modern simplicity that I’ve imagined for my own space but decided I couldn’t pull off. And the added dose of rustic, masculine finishings is perfect!

I LOVE a healthy mix of old and new. In fashion, in interiors, in ideologies. (That came out nicely… coffee table book concept, anyone? Grin.)

Note how the baroque-style chairs seem to draw each area’s different looks together through the consistency of the shape. Starck released his Louis Ghost Chair two years later — the traditional Louis XV shape in a modern, translucent polycarbonate.

  • This place does not disappoint! I had the chance to stay there my last trip to NY. Each room is unique, interesting, awe inspiring. It is just plain fun and glamorous to be there!
